MJF asked: Why is it that people are so quick to judge the overweight, accusing them of being a burden on society and using up more than their share of public resources? Whenever there is a news story about discrimination against a fat person, so many people get into arguments about the fat people deserving to suffer if they won’t make the change to their lifestyles to lose weight.
What about alcohol consumption? I don’t hear anyone complaining about the massive cost to society caused by alcohol. What about the family breakdown, violence, destruction of public property, police and emergency services resources used up because of the rampant excess consumption of alcohol?? I challenge anyone to show that obesity is more expensive to society on the whole, than alcohol…yet people who can’t last a few days without a drink, or who can’t go out and have fun without getting wasted are never criticised…it’s always saved for the person who chooses to binge eat that gets the abuse. Why???
Just for the record, no I’m not fat. I’m very much into sports. I am also a non-drinker as I think it’s damaging to the body, just as much as being overweight. I think people underestimate the cost of alcohol on society. When’s the last time you heard of a person being killed by a “fat driver”? How many fat people lose control after eating and beat up their families? How many brawls and assaults are caused by eating? How many times do the police have to intervene on an eating binge when it gets so out of control that hundreds of binge eaters start destructing the neighbourhood? Get my point?
I don’t see the same level of contempt and hatred aimed at drinkers as I do at overweight people. Drinkers are just deemed to be having a “good time”. It’s kind of laughed off. Eat too much though and you’re a pathetic waste of space. That seems to be the general opinion.

Galactic Hermit1 asked: So far I know macronutrients and micronutrients are needed to ensure growth, development, health and well-being. Macronutrients are the major nutrients needed by the body; they include carbohydrates, proteins and lipids. It is recommended that our diets are made up of 50 -60% of carbohydrates, 12 – 15% of protein and less than 30% fat. Micronutrients play a vital role in maintaining overall health and both excess consumption and intake deficiencies can lead to health disorders.
Can anyone elaborate based on Australian dietary guidelines?
I want to know what roles do macronutrients and micronutrients play in our diets.
